President's report

Hello ... well the sunshine has finally arrived. Thank goodness. We have had the most brilliant couple of months here at the Cairns Business Women's Club.

Our monthly luncheons and associated guest speakers have received rave reviews with a sell out crowd last lunch of 185 guests!

The CBWC Bendigo Bank Business Development and Leadership workshops are attracting an encouraging group of business owners and managers keen to learn, grow and network.

Membership has increased by 20% and our eNotice Board advertising medium continues to be one of the most sought after advertising mediums of our members and friends.

Just around the corner (23rd June) is another Business & Bubbles. Mark your diaries now as it would be fabulous to catch up with you all for champagne and a chance to network.

And soon to be launched is the 2006 Cairns Business Women of the Year Awards.

It is wonderful to be a part of this great Business & Networking Club.

Have a brilliant month.

Hope to see you at the June CBWC Luncheon,

Committee profile - Michelle Commins

In each newsletter edition, we intend to tell you a little bit about one of our committee team members.

Michelle Commins - Secretary

Michelle ComminsAlthough born in NSW, Michelle grew up in nearly every state of Australia - with a 3 year experience in Penang, Malaysia - following the route of a RAAF child. Michelle completed her schooling in Melbourne, with her first job in the banking industry.

In 1987, Michelle started on her professional career in Quality Assurance, Environmental Management and Occupational Health and Safety within the Transport Industry, and then moved to the Construction Industry in 1994.

In June 1997, Michelle and her husband started their travels around Australia with the purpose of finding another home (Melbourne was too cold).

Finally moving to Cairns in 1999, Michelle commenced work with Cairns Region Group Training as the Quality Manager and Personal Secretary to the Chief Executive Officer. Soon after, Michelle decided to start her own business.

TJC Business Services commenced trading in June 2000.

Michelle currently works with a variety of industries offering both training and consultancy in the development of Quality Assurance, Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems. Michelle is a qualified Senior Management Consultant, accredited through RABQSA International. New member profile

Kim Mullins - Guitarist

Kim Mullins is a professional musician, entertaining audiences across North Queensland and beyond over the past ten years. Originally from Sydney, Kim has been in and out of North Queensland for most of her life, and spent some of her childhood growing up in Mena Creek, outside of Innisfail.

Although she has been a professional vocalist for ten years, Kim only took a real interest in singing in her late teens. "I studied music through my schooling years, playing many instruments, including cello, viola, double bass, and clarinet, but at the time, I loved fine art and music equally, and singing wasn't even on my radar."

Kim claims 'the industry' has found her in many interesting situations, for example, as guest 'celebrity chef' for local ABC radio's breakfast program, entertaining guests in costume during dinner in the middle of a rainforest, and flying to Cooktown to perform on the M.V. Reef Endeavor as it made its way back to Cairns overnight.

Kim has teamed up with vocalist and musician, Celine Davies. "Celine and I have performed together from time to time over the past few years, we clicked straight away. When I was telling Celine of my plans this year, Celine told me her ideas were very similar. I asked Celine to come on board – straight away we decided to work together on this new project."

Kim and Celine have not one, but three new music acts they launched earlier this year! The two ladies feature in all three – their duo, Prodigal Sista, a top 40 dance band, Motif8, and 5 piece live band, the Kim Mullins Band. They play funk, rnb, top 40, blues, jazz, 70s classics, Latin, adult contemporary – you name it, they've played it! These ladies can entertain to suit your themed event as well.

"We pride ourselves on professionalism through years of experience, and keeping our audiences happy by playing so many different styles of music – although our passion is funk, rnb, blues and jazz."

If you want a duo or a band to entertain at your venue or your next function, I suggest that you call Kim on 0412 598 208. Christmas functions are booking very quickly.
